Last weekend, I finally (finally!) ventured to a new neighborhood. We went to our friend's birthday celebration in Adams Morgan. How to describe AM? Sort of a dirtier, wilder version of Georgetown. I won't say it's more 'fun'. Just a different kind.
So we get there and start off at Columbia Station...The place was pretty cool. There was live jazz music and a good mix of people...also an extensive menu of martinis. The birthday girl was ready to move on after a half hour or so, so we hopped a couple doors down to TomTom.
TomTom might be one of my new favorite places. The downstairs area had some dancing and music and was extremely crowded so we made our way to the top floor. It was pretty awesome...The roof was retracted, making it feel like we were outside on a rooftop patio, except not. There were also loads of cushy couches to lounge on. The bartender made me a 'Sweet Tea' (definitely not like your grandma makes), which may be the only drink I will ever get there because it was SO GOOD!
The evening took an interesting turn when I discovered that two members of our party LEFT WITHOUT ME! To make matters worse, they were the ones with the car keys. After much improvisation and quick thinking we traveled back to Vienna with the birthday girl and some of her friends. Like fate, we managed to catch up with the deserters by the time we got back.
All in all...my first visit to Adams Morgan was a success.
